Sand Policy
White Oak Mutual Water Company
White Oak Mutual Water Supply is 100% from wells. One of these wells was originally an agricultural well and supplies the water district during peak demand periods. This well is known to produce some sand. The water district has a flushing program to remove most of the sand. While the district strives to keep the amount of sand in the system to a minimum, some sand is inevitable. Even wells declared sand free have up to five milligrams per liter sand. Our neighborhood is unusual because we also have large lots and use large amounts of water. During peak summer time usage, our neighborhood has used as much as 18 million gallons of water in one month. Studies suggest this amount of water pumping could produce up to 6 cubic feet of sand and still be considered an acceptable amount.
It is thus impossible for White Oak Water Company to guarantee sand free water and we highly suggest homeowners install a whole house water filter if entirely sand free water is desired or is necessary.
While it is desirable to have sand free water it is impossible to remove all sand with our systems current hardware. Unless a majority of our shareholders vote to improve our current system we will all continue to live with some sand in our system.
If you are having unusual heavy sand in you water please contact the office and we will flush the lines in your area to keep the sand to a minimum.
