Before you use the water company valve to shut off water please read this:
Every residence is required to have a private shut-off valve, distinct from the water company’s meter valve, to facilitate routine or emergency shutoff. The water company cannot guarantee prompt shutoff in the event of a leak on the homeowner’s side of the meter and prohibits the use of the company’s meter valve by homeowners due to the risk of damage. Consequently, the water company will impose a fee of $100 for routine shutoff services on properties lacking a private shutoff valve. In cases of emergency shutoff requests, the actual costs incurred by the water company will be charged to the customer. Additionally, significant charges will apply for repairs if the meter valve is damaged by the homeowner. It is highly recommended that homeowners install a separate shut-off valve to prevent potential damage and associated repair costs. For further inquiries, homeowners are advised to contact the office to schedule an appointment with the water master to discuss available options.
